Blog Tour: The Call of the Rift: Flight by Jae Waller

Hi everyone! I'm super excited to be kicking this month off with a blog tour stop! I'll be doing a cover art discussion of this beauty :)

Book: Flight
Author: Jae Waller
Series: The Call of the Rift #1
Publisher: ECW Press
Pages: 440
Release: April 3rd, 2018

A rebellious heroine faces a colonial world coming unstitched in Jae Waller's stunning debut fantasy

Seventeen-year-old Kateiko doesn’t want to be Rin anymore — not if it means sacrificing lives to protect the dead. Her only way out is to join another tribe, a one-way trek through the coastal rainforest. Killing a colonial soldier in the woods isn’t part of the plan. Neither is spending the winter with Tiernan, an immigrant who keeps a sword with his carpentry tools. His log cabin leaks and his stories about other worlds raise more questions than they answer.

Then the air spirit Suriel, long thought dormant, resurrects a war. For Kateiko, protecting other tribes in her confederacy is atonement. For Tiernan, war is a return to the military life he’s desperate to forget.

Leaving Tiernan means losing the one man Kateiko trusts. Staying with him means abandoning colonists to a death sentence. In a region tainted by prejudice and on the brink of civil war, she has to decide what’s worth dying — or killing — for.

So, today I'll be discussing the amazing cover art of this book. I mean, have you seen it? Isn't it gorgeous? Here, let me give you a bigger image:

I mean, jeez! It's so pretty! And detailed! I have no idea where to start!

Firstly: let's talk about Kateiko. I absolutely love the image of her. With the wind blowing against her, the magic from her fingertips, and the ball-and-chain in her other hand, she is absolutely fierce. I am especially loving how her native heritage is evident--we definitely don't get to see that on covers very often, and I am extremely pleased by the proper representation of her ethnicity! Her heritage is also reflected in Kateiko's outfit as well. I absolutely adore the details in it, from the fur-lined boots to belt to her armguards.

Can we talk about the cloak? The red is such a bold and striking colour against the rest of the cover, and I think it accents the cover's earth tones perfectly. Though the slight turquoise sheen of the water is probably the biggest contrast to the rest of the cover in terms of colour, it definitely works as a means to bring the reader's attention all over the cover. I honestly couldn't stop drinking in everything!

And the elements! I love how Kateiko is so immersed within the natural elements. You have leaves dancing on the wind all around Kateiko, picking up her hair and cloak. You have the beautiful background, with the trees and riverbank, completely surrounded by nature. And who could miss the water? How it literally is rising up from the stream and into Kateiko's hand? I love how it twists and turns towards her hand; it shows mastery over her control over it, and also a kind of playfulness water often has!

Kateiko looks both powerful and confident in herself and her surroundings. As I've already mentioned, I am really happy to see some Indigenous representation amongst book covers! It's about time we got some proper representation on the covers, and what better way to do so than with a gorgeous and attractive cover?

  2. I am not much of an Anime buff, sure I watched my fair share when I was a teenager but most Animes simply do not grab as much as I would like. There is of course Akira and Ninja scroll and stuff like that people in general should watch at least once in their life. The only Anime TV show that I watched from the beginning was Fist of the North Star. A real classic in my opinion. los movies

Seems like I found another show that I consider already a classic in the making. I am proud to say after watching 3 Episodes of |Attack on Titan| I am blown away. The show is nicely paced, the whole plot is so simple, yet strong and the whole concept of having the human race, that consist of mostly German people or so it seems, locked up behind walls is really, really compelling. 123 movies

The art is superb and a joy to watch. From the Bavarian town over to the great painted landscapes, character design etc. It is all top notch in my opinion.Stuff like the charging Armored Titan is even for an old timer like just to cool to pass up. zmovies What a great scene that was. I cannot wait for the next episode. 31 full movie
